Psychotherapist

Renee is a Licensed Professional Counselor, who has a Master of Science in Counseling and Clinical Health Psychology, with a concentration in Addictions and Offenders.  Before joining the Well-Being Center, Renee worked as a psychotherapist at Soar Corp Recovery Center, helping those with opiate addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. While specializing in drug and alcohol dependence, Renee is also proficient in working with bi-polar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, grief and loss, and post-traumatic stress disorder, as a result of physical, sexual, and mental abuse.

Renee considers herself to be a “Rogerian" therapist because she follows the core principles of psychotherapist Carl Rogers and his Person Centered approach, which emphasizes that in order for a client to improve, a therapist needs be warm, genuine and understanding.  Renee treats each client with empathy and unconditional positive regard, identifying with their thoughts, feelings and attitudes in a non-judgmental way. Along with the Person Centered approach, Renee uses a mix of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Therapeutic Journal Writing, and Mindfulness Based CBT.

Becoming a psychotherapist has been a joyful, fulfilling experience for Renee.  This is her second career, as she originally obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications.  She believes her ability to communicate well has helped her to develop a cohesive, therapeutic alliance with each of her clients, and to become a better therapist.  Renee believes in the healing power of talk therapy, and would like to help each client better understand the dysfunctional symptoms causing distress, set and reach attainable goals, manage stress, make sense of past traumatic experiences, identify triggers that worsen symptoms, improve relationships, and most of all, to obtain and enjoy a happy, and healthy life.
